Segments

Build audiences for campaigns and automations — presets for guests, members, donors, and custom filters.

What it is

Segments are saved audiences you use to target SMS/email campaigns and automations. SteadyFaith includes preset segments (first-time guests, members, donors, missed Sundays) and a custom builder for advanced filters.

Where to find it

  • Dashboard → Segments (/dashboard/communications/segments)

Step-by-step workflow

  1. Open Segments — Go to Dashboard → Segments from the Communication section of the sidebar.
  2. Browse presets — Review built-in segments like First-Time Guests, Members, Donors, and Missed Last Sunday.
  3. Preview counts — Each segment shows a live count of matching people before you use it.
  4. Create a custom segment — Click New Segment and use the builder to filter by attendance, tags, groups, giving history, and more.
  5. Save and name — Give your segment a clear name (e.g., "Youth Parents — Active") so your team knows its purpose.
  6. Use in campaigns — When creating an SMS/email campaign, select your segment as the audience.
  7. Use in automations — Attach a manual segment trigger to an automation for ongoing outreach.

Tips & common issues

  • Start with presets — Preset segments cover the most common church outreach scenarios. Customize only when you need something specific.
  • At-risk segment — From the Executive Dashboard, you can create an at-risk segment directly from people flagged as disengaged.
  • Preview before sending — Always check the segment count before launching a campaign to avoid messaging the wrong audience.
